The first treatment approved for erectile dysfunction (ED) is Cialis (Tadalafil). Tadalafil is a phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE5) inhibitor. The mechanism of action of Cialis is a selective increase in cyclic guanosine monophosphate (cGMP) levels. It works by relaxing the smooth muscles in the blood vessels of the penis to facilitate blood flow to the penis. This allows for easier and more reliable erection. Cialis is available in 2 doses (Tadalafil, 4.5mg and 10mg): Cialis for the treatment of ED and Cialis for the treatment of impotence. Tadalafil is the first drug approved for ED treatment. It works by increasing the levels of cGMP and inhibiting PDE5, which in turn, relaxes the smooth muscles of the blood vessels. Cialis is used to treat both ED and impotence in men. The treatment of impotence is only for men under 18 years of age.
